INTRODUCTION TO MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS

Medicinal mushrooms have emerged from the forest and entered the mainstream.

They now appear in capsules, extracts, powders, coffees and health products of every description. Along with this new popularity has come an enormous amount of information, some excellent and some considerably more enthusiastic than accurate.

Robert has spent decades studying, writing and teaching about medicinal plants and fungi and is the author of numerous books in the field.

This three-hour workshop introduces participants to the remarkable world of medicinal mushrooms.

We meet 10 of the important species and explore what makes each distinctive, as well as their traditional uses, key constituents, and contemporary applications.

Participants also learn about the different ways mushrooms are prepared and used and gain some practical understanding of the mushroom products now appearing on store shelves.

The aim is to understand what these organisms are, why humans have valued them, how mushrooms differ from one another, and how to make more thoughtful choices about their use.

Mushrooms are strange and ancient beings. Once we begin looking closely, the forest floor becomes considerably more interesting.
